What are animal totems?

I'm really interested on the inner workings about Animal Totems. I know that I have a totem, an american eagle, but i want to know more.

a Totem is a Spirit. so an Animal Totem is an Animal spirit

basically.

they are here to guide us and to teach us. there is much that we can learn from the animal spirits. many of us find a totem on Vision Quest. some others simply are called to by a certain totem. this is the case with myself. my totem is the Bear.

Bear teaches me many things. passive ways to perseveer against great challenges. (hibernation through winter)

be peacful and slow to anger. but fierce and deadly in defense of your family.

to take only what i need from the land and not to hoard food or belongings.

you say that Eagle is your totem. eagle is a very strong totem. the eagle flies higher than any other bird here. he flies closest to creator. yet he is far of sight, he can hunt a field mouse from a mile up in the sky. the eagle is pride, the eagle is constant. always there always watching. he is a great provider for his family. and loyal to his tribe. eagle has the ability to fly anywhere but he always comes back to the same nest.

to seek the eagle spirit seek high , quiet places. and then you must be patient long enough to listen to what the spirit has to say to you.

Totem is an anglicized version of the notice 'odoodem'.....it capacity prolonged kinfolk. It has not something to do with the nonsense new-age concept of animal spirit classes. they have not everywhere in close by spirituality. that's an insult, while human beings use totem for this way of depiction.

Generally...new age junk...and new age likes to steal and warp pieces of Native cultures. I'm not even sure if totems came from any tribe...might be a bastardized idea off the totem poles of the people of the north west tribes.
