Just keep your eyes and heart open. Ask God to show you a need. Once your are really willing, occasions will present themselves to you. Then you'll have to decide again if you really want to meet the need!

We should always serve God first, but one way of doing that is by helping and loving our neighbors (and not just the people who live next door). You should start by praying about it. Let God lead you. I think you could introduce yourself to your neighbors and make some friends. Lend a hand to a total stranger that needs it. Do you have a church? Are there outreach programs you could volunteer for? Are there charitable organizations where you could spend a few hours helping? Spreading God's Word is also a great way to serve God and living a good life. Set an example for others. Keep praying about it though. Good luck
May God Bless you.

You can help every person you run into all day long. A kind word, a friendly smile can totally change a person's day. And it's possible they will pass that along to those they meet just like a snowball running downhill. Every interaction is an opportunity for you to show kindness and thereby be an instrument of God's love. If you type volunteer into a search engine you will find opportunities in your community to help the elderly and children through programs to organize the help those groups need. Good for you! Have fun.

Start by praying and asking God to bring you opportunities to serve people. Then start watching for them. They could be a neighbor (ask their names!), a stranger, or volunteer at your church, or search the internet for missions in your area. You may want to go on a missions trip with a local church, call around and ask what trips are planned. But remember, even more than your serving others, God wants your heart. Get ready for service opportunities by getting closer to God through the Bible and prayer. :)

Serve God by serving your fellow man. Because when you are in the service of your fellow man, you are in the service of God.
Ask him in prayer for opportunities to serve others and God will provide opportunities to you. For example, if you see a stranger stalled in a car on the side of the road, perhaps you can help him call for a tow truck on your cell phone, or give him a lift to the nearest pay phone, etc. If you look for opportunities to help others, they will come. Even smiling to a stranger may "make their day" and in essence you are serving them (and God) by making the world a happier place.

It's not difficult at all. Recently hubby was trying to fix a hose on the hydraulic lift to our 'bus'. The neighbors closest to us are a sweet young couple with a new baby. Hard working folks and very pressed for time. The husband came over right as he got home from work and helped hubby. I was so glad because I am terrible help mechanically and hubby has a difficult time because he has only one leg. I baked a new cake recipe I'd been wanting to try, made two actually and took one over to the neighbors as a thank you. Offering anything I could do to help. A couple days later they we hard pressed for a sitter at the last minute and someone had to miss work. I was more than delighted to return a favor with no inconvenience to me, I loved spending the day with the baby :)

There are numerous charities and what have you that you can donate to globally. Whatever calls to your heart - be it environmental, medical, food, educational, human rights, or something else - can use help from people willing to help it.
Also, you can certainly do more than one: I donated food charity to people in Africa, do pro bono work at my law school, have a child in Asuncion, Paraguay, that I support with a child-sponsorship organization, and headed up a chapter of Amnesty International in undergrad.
This may sound naive and cliche, but - Simply smiling at people on the street goes a long way, too. Having moved from somewhere that didn't do that to somewhere that did (New York to the Midwest), I've found that it does make a positive difference. Start from there and follow wherever your heart and your beliefs lead you.
(If there's a particular charity/service organization you're interested in, edit your post and I can try to provide links to Chinese organizations that would apply, if you want.)

Do you attend a church? If not, look for one that is involved in the community. You’ll find plenty of ways to help.
In every nursing home there are lonely people who lay in bed day after day with no one to visit, hold their hand and pray with them. If you ever want to feel wanted, go visit the church members in the nursing home.
In every community there are people who have nobody to listen. Sometimes we can offer a great help just by listening.
In every community there are hungry people, and people trying to get help with various other needs. We can help in so many ways.
If you don’t know your neighbors’ names, that’s a good place to start. Go over and introduce yourself and find out if they need help of any kind, particularly if they are elderly.

People are to caught up within themselves to worry with others out there. Sad really, How many people have actually turned their backs on someone who really needed help because they are to busy or just don't like the looks of the person asking.
Offer a smile and a hello, this my friend goes a long way.

You can't be serious. Do you go outside your house? Any time you come into contact with another person, you have the opportunity to demonstrate the love of Jesus Christ.
Being kind, compassionate, merciful, forgiving, all these are ways of serving others.
