Going up stairs, or walking uphill, uses more energy that walking on a flat plain. Unfortunately, going down stairs is assisted by gravity, and doesn't do much to help a person lose weight.

That's cuz the cardiovascular is increased when walking up flights...it's going against gravity...

up, down, flat, as long as you are moving you are burning calories and may lose weight

it takes more energy to walk an incline so you burn more calories
