My best friend's fiance is in the bmt for the navy right now. They were planning to get married when he graduates from bmt in April before he goes to school. She heard that couples have to have approval from the navy before they can get married. Is this true and if so how do they go about getting approval. Thanks!

This is not entirely true. The command would prefer that junior persons (E-1 to E-4 ) make sure that they are capable of financially and emotionally secure before marriage. There is no regulation stating that a person has to have permission to get married. Part of the marriage process will be financial counseling, and speaking with a chaplain, or rabbi depending on religious preference. This isn't to discourage members from getting married, but the help them make sure they are truly ready for marriage.
