If you have a relatively small yard you might try sprinkling cayenne pepper around on the ground. Dogs typically don't like the smell of cayenne pepper. Another thing, do you know why he is digging the holes? Is he trying to find a cool, cozy spot to lie? Get him a cozy dog house with a doggy bed if this is the case. Is he digging out of boredom? Get him a playmate from your local shelter. Is he digging to try to get out of the yard? Try the cayenne pepper around the boundaries of the fence.

My pitbull does that alot. Either it's trying to hide something or you just don't take it for enough walks...Or it's just board some tips: 1)As soon as he begins to dig, yell “No No No!” as you run outside and give the dog a correction. As long as you continue to say “No no no” as you run to the dog, the dog WILL still associate the correction with the behavior.2)Bury hardware mesh or chicken wire in the spot where he’s been digging. The chicken wire should be buried two to three inches below the surface. Dogs don’t like scraping their paws against this stuff. So, right off the bat you’ve got an immediate negative association.3)
Step 3.) Spy on him and just wait until he start to dig.

If there's a specified situation she digs, subsequent time while she digs the gap, while she isn't watching positioned a balloon filled with water within the gap and canopy it up once more. When she digs there once more it is going to burst and make her bounce. No shaggy dog story, its an genuine system.

We have a Black Lab that is good at that. When we poppy scoop our yard we put the poop in the holes, and that has stopped them from digging. We cover it with dirt but they don't like it and it dosen't hurt our yard at all. I know it sounds grose but it works.

Our Lab digs when he's hot - he gets down to cooler soil and lays down in the hole - even if it's just a little hole. So we put in a kiddie pool and that helped. He splashes in that instead of digging.

We tried to make a lil fence over the holes or lawn chairs when he wants to dig nothing stops him. It is kinda funny though. His nose all dirt. One thing you should never beat a dog I think you will just have to take it head and rub it in the hole and tell them NO! It worked with my dog.I do not know if it wil work with your dog though.

if he is a puppy only let him out when you're watching him and when he starts digging yell NO and give him a friendly spank (not hard that's mean) if he is old. YOU have NO chance.
