No. Very bad idea. People can take St. John's Wort, which is a herb. But RX strength anti-depressants need to be prescribed correctly, and monitored. Some require blood test to make sure they are not harming some of your organs. And people should not self-medicate for serious mental conditions.

since the affects of antidepressants can impair your ability to drive a car, make you drowsy, etc maybe they should not be sold over the counter.but alcohol is sold over the counter and it also can make you a danger to others and yourself.many depressed people begin their therapy drinking alcohol. laws are made to benefit the majority, but not everybody necessary benefits.meds for high blood pressure, diabetes, etc that currently require a doctor's prescription may one day be available over the counter, my opinion? it's too long and complicated to start a debate about

No, to many people take anti-depressants when they are depressed and then once the anti-depressant kicks in they say to them selves I feel fine I don't need that pill anymore its just an added expense and when they stop taking them with out the help of a physician they hit rock bottom hard and fast causing a high rate of suicide. This is one type of medication that I feel no one should self medicate.

Considering they're prescribing them to everybody these days - why not? They would need to sell them only to adults--as kids and teens can have adverse effects to antidepressants.
The only problem would be in new people taking them. Doctors need to monitor progress and adjust doseages according to how an individual is reacting to the pills. In some cases, the pills need to be changed. For people who have been taking the same antidepressants for years (like me), however, they could be sold over-the-counter.

honestly i don't think any medicine that comes from the medicinal company's should be sold at all. you get more side effects that it helps you and none of it is a cure just a way to get you by till you have to buy more. thus they become rich off off you health problems.
