In some places there are hefty fines for littering. Unfortunately it doesn't seem like the authorities take it seriously.
We all have to pitch in to keep our earth clean and free of debris. It was a good idea when they put a deposit and return on cans and bottles. That cut back on much of the pollution.

Why are you whining? What are you trying to say? Paper doesn't evaporate. If it did, it wouldn't evaporate into the earth. If it did evaporate into the earth it wouldn't destroy the earth's structure. Stop complaining. Talk your family/friends/school/work into adopting a mile of highway to pick up trash. Talk to your local government about making recycling more available to the average lazy person. Volunteer at a recycling center. Don't rant to Yahoo answers, rant to your local community!

I agree with you. E veryone thinks the no littering laws and recycling apply to everyone but them.
If we all just didn't litter, and we recycled everything we could, it would go a long way in this world.
As to your question "Why are humans so lazy about these issues?"- They have to be taught from early childhood- the way I was; but, if their parents don't care, how can the children be expected to care? They're only following by horrible example- and, unfortunately, so it goes....

today we make stuff that does not decompose
that never existed in the past
i have seen this happen in native indio villages that have been clean for thousands of years and now they are up to their necks in coca cola bottles and all kinds of plastic bags
it is always the fault of the thrower
and many people are insensitive to the earths conditions ,they are going to a place much more beautifull that this earth ,called Paradise ,the snag is that you have to die first .
in the Netherlands ,which traditionally is a clean place, the law is very hard on people that litter and the general public is much more comunity minded than people in many Christian countries
it used to be tradition to clean the street in front of the house ,every monday and the people had even made this street ,resulting in a patch work of different bricks in front of each house..
in countries like Mexico people keep their house spotless ,but dump their garbage in front of the door outside ,and often inside their gardens
there is no police control and the river banks are covered in rubbish
Needless to say a wide range of diseases exist
this year 9 types of parasites ,and eye, stomach and skin complaints of the people who bathed in the river .
and nobody seems to care about the future
5 years of battling with an obstinate mentalities have resulted in nothing positive.
the only -why- i can figure out is that they cant wait to get to their beautifull clean heaven ,and dont care what happens here
I do and so do millions of others who considder this planet our paradise ,and we dont want to die to get there .,we want it now

If we picked up our own trash.....in big cities, the garbage collectors would be out of jobs.
It uses more resources to recycle something than to just throw it out and make a new one. Only thing thats worth recycling is plastic since its oil based, but its still soo cheap to make it and we'll find some alternative in the future....
Paper for example.....atleast in america, there are tree farmers who's sole purpose is to grow trees to be cut down for paper. If we recycle more, they sell less trees and therefore they plant less trees, the economics doesn't work out for them to plant more trees.
Then we use more resources to process that used paper to recycle it.
Our polution problems i think come down to our energy use, we need to be more effecient about it, but again, if you are richer than other people...it means you are a better person and you shouldnt' be held to the same values of people poorer than you.......( i dotn' believe this, but thats how our society sort of works...capitalism). You figure, our landfills will be the diamons and oil / coal for the people a few million years form now.

Get a grip. First, nothing evaporates into the earth. Secondly, paper is a natural product and biodegradable. It decomposes and forms compost (just like dead leaves). Finally, if litter bothers you, pick some up.

as with most environmental issues, people aren't informed and most just don't care!! stupid people! i think it should be mandatory for everyone to take at least one environment-related class in their life. education always helps but there's always those jerks that just don't care. i bet they would if they were fined!!!
