say a nuclear power plant was to blow up, what is the distance in miles that the people would be affected from it. like everyone 5 miles would be instantly killed everyone 10 miles would be injured like that 10 pts for best answer.

First, Power plants will not explode like a bomb, they run on fule enriched to 2%, weapons are 98%. So large scale mushroom clouds are not going to happen.

Second, Chernobyl was built without containment structures, hence the high radiation levels. When TMI melted a reactor, very little radiation was released, the plant still operates and the town is still there, and still the capitol of PA.

The general site emergency radius for evacuation is 10 miles. But death of people offsite is not an issue.

When the reactor at Chernobyl blew up nobody outside the plant itself was killed right away. But a large city had to be completely abandoned because it is too radioactive to live in now.
