With all the information now available about skin cancer and other long-term effects of excessive sun exposure, I don't advocate it; she definitely doesn't "lay out", or sun-bathe. However, even with sunblock 50+, that little sun goddess bakes to a golden brown by late summer that rich women on Rodeo Drive pay big bucks for. :) I don't know how she does it.
I figure as long as I keep on applying that 50+ sunblock all day long, I'm doing the best I can. If she tans, oh well, lucky her. Her doctor is not bothered by it, and has given me the thumbs up on the brand of sunblock I use, so what else can ya do?

I will let my daughter decide that when she's 18. I started tanning when I was 16, and I feel I was kinda young. I regret it now, and I just hope it doesn't have lasting effects. These days I wear plenty of sunscreen if I'm going to be outside for more than a half hour or so. I think it's my job as a mom to protect and inform her about things that could cause her harm. I don't want to feel guilty for letting her tan--when she's 30 and has skin cancer.

For the record...it has NOT been proven that tanning in a tanning bed is safer!!! In fact, you are actually getting a higher rate of UV exposure in a shorter amount of time. Not to mention the fact that a lot of people end up getting skin conditions from tanning beds that were not properly sanitized. I guess some people don't mind being wrinkly and bumpy.

You shouldn't.
They should wear sunblock during the early phases of life (untile they're atleast 16-18.)
Overexposure during a young age ups the chance of skin cancer in the future and makes their skin more sensitive and discolored (and other crazy problems).
Don't let them tan until they're out of the house, I recommend. They might be able to get Spray On Tans (temporary and no real effect), but that's all I'd allow.

No way!
Then again, tanning isn't really "in" these days for 2-1/2 year olds or for 14-month olds.

Not in a tanning bed. They do go outside and get a tan.

No way,
They will damage there skin.
If they want to tan then make them wait until they are at least 18 years old and are making the choice themselves to damage there skin and increase there chance of getting skin cancer.

Absolutely not...do you not know the harm in tanning. Would you let your child play with a razor or have a cigarette?

if your child is old enough to sign up for it, let them tan. but make sure you inform them of the risks that they are taking.
