All purpose flour does not contain the leavening agents such as baking powder and salt that make cakes and cookies rise. So if a recipe calls for self rising flour and you only have all purpose flour, you can substitue per 1 cup needed of self rising flour with 1 cup all purpose flour, 1-1/2 tsp.baking powder and a pinch of salt (1/8 tsp.)
Self rising flour already has these leavening agents in them so it's not necessary to add. Self rising flour also has a tendency to deteriorate quickly when exposed to humid conditions and would need to be used up quicker than all purpose.
Hope this helps.

If you want to have oatmeal cookies that are rather thin and crisp do not use baking powder in them.Use soda. If you are looking for a cookie that is poofed up and
does not spread much use baking powder
in place of soda.I would not recommend
using self rising flour to make cookies.
All purpose flour would be better.
Self rising flour has baking powder and salt added. I hope this helps you with your cookies. jim b

You don't need to add baking powder to self- rising flour because self- rising flour has already had it as an ingredient.

Self-rising flour already has a leavening agent in it; as a rule, you do not need to use baking powder with this type of flour.
