Sunday morning I stepped off a chair and heard my left knee pop. It's not strange to hear a pop, but this felt weird, like when I tore the cartiladge in the same knee back in '96. I did that lifting a box of books. Then and now, nothing, initially, seemed to be a problem. Back then I only had pain when I put weight on it while it was bent. The doc said lateral tear...something. I babied it and surgery was not required. This time I seemed fine for a day and a half. I walked around shopping with a friend. Then I got in a cab. The knee popped painfully across the center, top portion, both getting in and out of the cab. It has been pretty stiff since. I was able to bend it for a few hours without pain last night, but then I had to squat down for something. It hurt a little while in the squat, but hurt a lot after I got up. Now it's stiff again. Sometimes I feel no pain. Sometimes I feel a cutting pain. Sometimes it feels like I've put a heat rub on it. Sometimes I feel

pressure across the top of the knee. I've tried wrapping it in an ace bandage for support, but it seems to make it worse. I've had knee injuries before and I'm pretty experienced at wrapping it up, but it doesn't help. I'm icing, elevating, and taking ibuprofen. It doesn't seem to help. I'm not sure if there was initial swelling as I went to sleep right after it popped Sunday. What does it sound like I've done?

When I fell both knee caps, it feels like there is an identation line in the injured one that isn't in the healthy one. When it pops with end bend or straightening of my knee, I can feel something shift near the center of the front of my knee and then it hurts or burns.

I am not exactly sure where you are talking about. I know a little about knee surgeries. I have had a total of 13.
If your pain is above the knee joint about an inch above the knee cap, you could have a torn quad muscle. If its inside the joint it could be an ACL tear which will require surgery. If the pain is still there tomorrow. I would head to the doctor

okay both my knees are really bad and i've got arthritus in the left one. if you tore your ACL you wouldn't be able to move your leg and would probably fall over b/c you'd be in so much pain. question. did it pop out of place? mine did and i found out that my left lateral muscle on the inside of my thigh is torn. I also babied it and didnt need surgery. but now it's so bad that they want to operate. my guess is that you either tore the same injury again or it's worse now. either way you need to get to a doc. and specilist before it's too late and you can't walk on it at all, it comes faster than you think. (i was on crutches for 6 weeks after this last time i tore my thigh muscle.) GOod LUCK you're gonna need it!
