guess this is more a vent then anything, but will explain the situation and ask if I handled this right(which I think I did). Thanking you in adavnace for your feedback.
A month ago I injured my knee, did some serious damage according o MRI(and feeling) and was referred to a Ortho Sur. in my area. I have had visits, the 1st resulting in PT for awhile. Great! Anything to avoid surgery! I was prescribed at the first appoint. pain meds., took them as the PHARMACIST said(which was every 12 hours or as PRN) so I did take 3 in 24 hrs(after waking in the middle of the night in pain every night)
So I was getting close to running out, it was last Friday I asked for something else for that coming MON. when I was going to be out. Told the staff would contact DR. & call me back..no call, so I went in after PT to inquire..and got humiliated by 2 staff members on the amount I had taken, and then told the DR. could prescrib. something else after they talk to him and call me. NO CALL 5 days later

called today & was told I couldn't talk to Dr. no appt.(to see 4 pain) and basically good luck finding a DR. in my area that takes my insurance(TRICARE) Unbelievable! So I fired the DR. called my reg. PCM, then called and filed a complaint on the staff of the DR. w/ my insur. company. I can't believe I was treated that way! I am "managing" the pain w/ ibuprophen and hot baths, and PT..but now I am back to square one IF SURGERY needs to be done and no surgeon until I am referred again by my PCM. Was I wrong to call the staff on ridiculing and blowing me off? I have never ever been treated like this from ANY DR's..EVER!The pain med was percocet, & I didn't ask for those(as I know from working in a DR office that they are APPT.only prescribed) I just asked for something else he could call in later. It's not even about the meds at this point as I stated I am handling it!( I don't want any!) It's the staff's treatment and blowing me off when I was told I would get a call back.

It is unfortunate you were treated so badly. People can be jerks everywhere you go and in every field of service. Hopefully, you can go get a second opinion and have that taken care of. Good luck and try not to think about them too much. I'm sure the proctologist next door found their heads.

Percocet is for acute pain, and at this point maybe the office felt like you shouldn't be needing it. The fact that they're doing PT is they hope it'll get better, and get you off the drugs and to a 'normal' life. I don't think the issue is not getting the drugs, cause if the staff would have pulled your chart and asked your doctor, you would have received an answer. So, you need to ask for the 'manager' of the office. You need to make a formal complaint in writing to her and the doctor. There is no excuse for poor communication, but it happens.

Unfortunately with as much pain meds hitting the streets as there is you find this often. It took me 23 years before I could find someone to properly diagnose my condition and treat it.By the time this happened the damage was so severe that there is nothing they can do for me and say I will end up in a chair in a few years. It is very maddening to be sure to be treated in that manner. I can't tell you how many times this happened to me and there was no reason whatsoever for them to assume I was just there in hope of finding drugs. Never had been in any trouble with drugs in any way. They assume. I'm not sure what the answer to this problem is. It's a tough one. We have thousands of kids dying every year from drugs which should have never made it into their hands and yet we have many people who desperately need these drugs.Your answer may lie in finding a doctor and office who will not treat you like this. In any case there was absolutely no reason for them to talk to you in this manner period. There is no help for me at this point except to be on massive doses of pain killers. But when I first started looking for help there might have been. The doctors are in a tough position themselves. They have invested a great deal of time and money in their education and they don't want to lose their right to practice over prescibing drugs that end up where not meant to be. It's a real tough situation but one that needs attention for certain. It is very unfair to those who need pain relief.

The way the staff of your physician's office treated you was very unprofessional, to say the least. They should not assume that everyone is a drug addict. After all those pills are made for a reason aren't they?.... They are for pain management, not for some peeon in an office somewhere to get a powertrip goin' on..... Sheesh.

well when a person is in pain there is a sense of urgency .
my thinking is that the staff at the doctors office see many people who are just drug seeking as they are hooked. that does not mean that you should have been treated as you describe . this is however how it goes. i am glad you have found other ways to relive the pain .
