In other words, if a 130 lb person and a 200 lb person took the same amount, would the 130 lb person feel it more? Sorta like how lighter people get a higher blood alcohol volume sooner than heavier people?

Legit prescription question--I'm not asking in order to get high off it.

I am asking because my doc cut my dose in half, and I am hoping that if I lose weight, the withdrawal won't be so bad. Not that I need to lose 70 lbs, but you get the point.

Yes in general doctors look at your size when dosing, and the affect depends on how well your body processes the medication, (ie some people are oversensitive to sedative medication, or get more side effects). In general watch yourself closely whenever starting or changing dosage on a medication, also be aware of possible side effects!

Hope that helped.

yes, but it also depends on how long the people have been taking it. The 130 lb person could be on xanax for 5 years, and the 200 lb person would feel it more if he just started taking it, but yes to your question. If they both started at the same time, the 130 lb person would feel it more. Andrew. P.S.- I've known people to OD on these, so be careful.

yes, it actually can. but the length of time that you've been taking the medication can have an affect on the way this particular med. works on you.
lets say you're 130 lbs., and you've been taking xanax for one year and we put a 200 lb. guy next to you who has never taken the medication before, and we give each of you the same dosage you're taking regularly, he's going to feel it first because he's not used to it.
just a reminder... never drink grapefruit juice while on xanax, it can cause a very serious health risk.
Best Wishes

That's a really great question! With the class of durgs that Xanax falls in (benzodiazepines) the dosage is not calculated based on weight but rather based on severity of symptoms. There are a lot of drugs that are dosed based on weight, but benzo's are not one of them. Your doctor (or PA :) ) will be able to determine the right dosage for your symptoms.

To add to the last response, it also depends on your general health and how easily your body can break down the medication. For example people with liver or renal failure break down medications slower, thereby increasing the amount of time the medication will affect you.

I don't know if body weight can affect it, but I do know the more frequently you take the medication, the more "immune" you will become to its effects. Basically, you build up a tolerence to the medication and have to take more in order to achieve the benefits. This medication and others in the same class (benzodiazapems) are highly addictive, so beware.

yes , the doseage should be greater for someone who has more body mass. it also had to do with your own tolarance levels, if you dont usually take scripts or it takes very little , for you to get the desired relief.iam about 150 lb but i do not take any scripts ,and use only 1 tylenol at a time. one 2 mg of zanax will put me to sleep , but my daughter who is 130lbs can take 5-10 mg and be fine.she has a script for 10mg bars but usually breaks them in half.

If you want to get really ****** up and not remember anything the next morning just take about 2-3 bars (if your semi used to it otherwise take a bar or 2 max) then drink about a 6 pack and you will be completly wasted and not remember anything the next morning. I don't think your weight affects it i think it's more your tolerance to it. i.e how many times have you taken it before and how use is your body to it?
