For some reason, I really want a jeep liberty. I think its the excellent college car. It's not to big, but its not small either. I think its the perfect size. Anyway, I want to know the pros and cons of getting a jeep liberty. Is the jeep liberty good with gas too??

thank you

i own a repair shop and that's not a bad choice for a vehicle, your going to hear stories of how bad they are and all of this,i been a mechanic for 36 years, and they have gave no more trouble than an average vehicle has,and your right there a good mid sized SUV, we do a lot of work on different ones ,and all the ones i know of are doing real good,i wouldn't recommend it if it was junk, its not,its a good priced vehicle for what it is,good luck i hope this helps.

I bought a 2006 Jeep Liberty Renegade in December. I love everything about it except the POOR fuel mileage. It has plenty of power and is better than other comparable SUVs, at least when I was out test driving them. If you want good fuel mileage, then you should get a 4 cylinder, which jeep doesn't offer. It is a jeep, so fuel mileage is going to be less than other small SUVs, but I am only getting about 14 mpg, and that is mostly on the highway. I am hoping it will get better as it "breaks in." If you don't plan on doing any off-roading, then I would at least consider the Toyota RAV4, but the liberty is a great SUV.......other than the fuel mileage. Good Luck.

With so many small suv's to choose from it can be a big decision (no pun intended).

I am a car dealer and I have sold and/or owned them all.

The Liberty is a very good vechile, maybe not the best gas milage around, but a good vechile. Jeep also has a very small warranty covering this product....something to think about.

Other choices in this catagory include Honda's CRV (nice car, but VERY pricey), Totota's Rav4 (VERY pricey and a horribly cramped interior), Hyndai's Tucson (Nice product excelent warranty - some gas milage concerns) Chevrolet Equinox/Pontiac Torrent (looks like a lexus for half the price, and an excelent ride) and even the Saturn Vue(which I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy).

Take your time and drive a few diffrent ones. Make sure you want to have it parked in your drive each day before you take it home.

My wife had one for 4 years and we were very pleased with it. We had very few problems other than a reoccuring front pinion seal leaking. The back seat leg room is not made for anyone over about 10 years old but for one or two people its great. The fuel mileage was one of the reasons we traded it, about 13-15 around town and 20 on the interstate was the best we could get. We also took it on 2 Jeep Jamboree trips and it performed excellent on the trails! It dropped the jaws of several people with modified Wranglers on the places we went without hardly spinning a tire. That's my view on the Liberty so I hope it helps with your decision.

I agree with you on the size of the jeep liberty, not to big or small. Don't be fool thought that since is generally smaller size and the choice of 4 cylinder and V6 engine that you will get good gas mileage. Jeeps are made for offroading and are heavy. Especially with four wheel drive this will kill your gas mileage. I would expect you to get somewhere within 15mpg city and 20highway.
I also know someone who traded in a Chrysler Pacifica which is a bigger car then a liberty and got better gas mileage in the Chrysler.

Go to the Jeep website and compare with other SUVs in its class. I just got a Patriot (Limited) and absolutely LOVE it. The Patriot has a really low base price, all safety features including ESP and side-curtain air bags, are standard. Great mileage! Decent warranty.
I looked at CRV and the Vue before buying... both were too ugly for the price, both of these 2007s look like station wagons, yikes!
If you don't need to haul kids and groceries around, you could go with the smaller Patriot and save a few bucks in the process. (I finally got mine a couple of weeks ago... I had been waiting since December to finally get one! Worth the wait.)

Go to this link and compare Liberty to Patriot and other non-Jeeps: http://www.jeep.com/en/liberty/compare/index.html
This will let you compare all features including safety, performance, and warranty.

Best of luck,
Mon :-)

Don't get stuck on a Jeep Liberty as there are alot of small SUV's that compare to it that are better quality. Toyota and Honda both have small SUV's that are about the same size that get better gas mileage, better performance (especially the Toyota RAV 4 with a V6) and are much more reliable.

My grandparents have a 2006 Jeep Liberty and they travel all over the nation with it. They get really good gas miliage for it being an SUV and they have NEVER had even a slight problem with it. Iv driven it, and they are really nice.
