Neighbor hoards all the street parking on my block. He also allows all his friends, relatives & coworkers to park overnight. I'm often left with no choice but to park in front of my own driveway. Talking to him only makes matters worse. What can I do?

If he is not parking within your compound, there is nothing you can do. As either of you got the rigth over the place outside of your own compound.

I know parking can be an aggravation (trust me, I've fought the businesses on my block all the way to city hall). But first, he has a RIGHT to park that way. And if he parks before you, he has a right to those street spaces. If he's having those people come over, where the heck else are they going to park!? Should they, like, take the bus so you can have a spot!? You won't do that, why should they?

You sounds like you got a chip on your shoulder... in fact you sound downright paranoid. So it's no surprise talking to him isn't working. You're probably just annoying him. Certainly, playing the "parking victim" will only make you the target of bullying.

What you can do is mellow out. If your street is crowded and street parking is hard to find, then that's just how it is.

Anyway, you have a driveway so you have guaranteed parking. You need to start using it for your >CAR< instead of for whatever else is cluttering up your driveway or garage. Confront your own materialism, not this guy. Out with it. Put your car there.

Send him a letter addressing your problem and let him know that you have a right to your own parking spot and if he continues to park in your spot then you will see to it that his car is towed away. And if he still does it then have his car towed. At least you gave him a fair warning. Good Luck

If parking is permitted overnight without a special permit then there isn't much you can do. If a permit is required or there is a time limit, report it and they'll get parking tags, that'll stop them.
