my wedding reception will be held at a chinese restaurant and that place is completely red! The chairs, linen table cloths, and even the walls are red. I do not know what colors to use to tone down the place. I do not want it to look so asianize (if that is even a word). I like it to look more elegant. What can i use as my centerpiece for the tables? How can i decorate it? HELP

Use white, table cloths, napkins, plates everything, if you can pruchase white sheer material and have it drape across the walls and enrty way and maybe even run white christmas lights behind it. and use white wide ribbon and tie bos around the backs of the chairs. That would look really elegant i woul think and not have it look like you killed something. Ha Ha. but try the white especially with the light behind it. that would look really nice. make the entry way the focal point both on the outside and inside. there are places that you can rent white trellis arch ways and that kind of stuff like pillars and as for flowers i would do white cala lillies and another flower of your wedding colors. Good Luck

My reception hall was completely red as well (it was an old speakeasy). If you don't want it to look asian, don't have it at a chinese restaurant. I wouldn't bother to tone down the red...nothing you do will make much of a difference. Just have simple centerpieces, like a vase with some flowers, or tiny bamboo plants. Go with it and have fun, but don't waste much time figuring out something that will tone it down. Really, nothing you can do will have any real impact.

White, gold, or black linens
Lots of candles if the lights are on a dimmer!!!
If you do both of these things, then depending on the shade of red the color will just disappear into the background.
Also, if you do both of these, then you can have whatever color scheme you want- just try not to go too far in the opposite direction.

Are you allowed to do anything to the walls? Probably not.
Are you permitted an open flame such as candles?
What colors are you using for your wedding?
What season is the wedding?
What time of day?

White will look good, and you might use a touch, just a touch of black to give it some elgegance.
Or you could use gold.

can you drape some sheer white fabric on the red walls? that will make it look elegant and not so red. also try soft lighting and candles so it's not too bright and bringig attention to the red. Do white flowers - that will be eye catching and will take away the red or you can accept the red and use flowers that go well with it- yellows, oranges, pinks, white, black.
good luck on this one :) God Bless!
