i went to a shower last year that was very nice and did not include alcohol, penis cakes, or strippers!
It was sweet and elegant yet simple- there was some punch, crackers and cheeses, meats, and other finder foods then lots of bite-sized desserts(yummy).
we played a few 'bridal party games' and chatted with the bride and family.
and she opened her gifts and lingerie (lol she's shy so this was quite hilarious to see her turn bright red :P)
I was very impressed. Dunno if that's your style but it wasn't very expensive and wasn't too hard to do but enjoyable for everyone who attended (except for the mother-in-law who felt the need to yell at the bride on her celebratory day but w/e)!

Just do a girl's day out, instead of a night event. For my bachelorette party (which is really just a time for all the girlfriends to get together and have fun) we went to a pottery place where we made our own pottery. It was a nice time with food and talking and laughing. It's not necessary to plan a bar hopping, stripper filled event. If there's something your sister and friend are interested in (like sports, or crafts, or music, etc.) just go to an event that incorporates that activity. Or, just have a simple party somewhat like a bridal shower with food and drinks and games. Don't stress. They asked you to be their bridesmaids for more than a great party. Just have fun with it!

Maybe plan a day or weekend at the beach. A day at the spa is always fun. I guess it depends on what they like to do...you want to plan something that you know they will enjoy.
