Yes, there usually is a consulate in every major city. One thing you should do, is to make a copy of your pspt before traveling, and keeping it separate from your original passport!

This happened to a freind of mine and he was detained at the airport for a long time waiting to hear back from the US.You would probably not get to leave the airport but someone there would help you.
