Hi,
I would buy your baby furniture and textiles (blankets, sheets etc) at Ikea. The reason is that they are affordable but more importantly, they conform to European Union standards (made in Sweden) that are much more stringent than they are in the US or Canada. Most baby mattresses in the US are treated with fire retardants that can be harmful (see www.cotlife2000.com). Also, baby furniture at Ikea has been tested to ensure that it doesn't off-gass chemicals (it is low VOC)such as formaldehyde. Lots of the cheaper furniture is made not of solid wood but cheaper particle board that is a bunch of little wood pieces held together with adhesive. Many of these adhesives have volatile organic compounds and are not something you want in your new baby's nursery (or anywhere else for that matter).
Good luck!

I don't know where you live but i know if there are big lots or stores like that you can get some of the things that you need. you can also check things like yard sales if you don't have a lot of money to spend and alot of time baby furniture is not used that long and you can find it in good shape in places like that. I'm not really sure what your looking for. Also walmart has reasonable prices on baby furniture. Hope this helps you.

Ask some close friends if they have any hand-me-downs that they're willing to sell or even give. Also, if you plan on a baby shower, register at Wal-Mart and/or Target when you're pregnant to create a list of things you'll be wanting or needing. It can help cut the cost down a bit and give everyone a chance to participate in the new arrival. It seemed like everyone around me wanted to buy something everyday for the baby.
But definitely go for the hand-me-downs or even garage sales. Thrift stores and Goodwill are great places to look for baby clothing. He/she won't care what the style is as long as it's warm and comfortable! ;)
Good luck!

craigslist.com is an awesome place to find great furniture deals.
Whatever you do though, don't buy a used carseat...that's about the only thing that should be bought new. We're pregnant now with our 3rd and this poor baby isn't going to be getting anything new; it's just not worth it. Babies grow out of everything so quickly!! With our first, everything was new, and with our 2nd it was mostly handmedowns, this one will be about the same. They'll never know the difference; but your wallet will!
Good luck!!

Yes I love swaddling too. I call them baby burritos when they are all wrapped up, and they are so cute I agree. They make a blanket called "Swaddle Me" and they sell it at Babies R Us. It comes in fleece, knit, or flannel. It comes in 2 sizes. They are $10 and so worth it. It uses velcro so it's harder to wiggle out of. Swaddling with a blanket is an art, and very quickly the blanket is too small! I swaddled my son until he was probably 5 months. Even now, he is 2, and he likes when I wrap him tight in a blanket before his naps. My daughter is 5 months and I just stopped swaddling her at night. I still swaddle her for naps though. It just keeps her so cozy and snug. My babies would both chill right out as soon as I wrapped them when they were fussy. Even if they didn't fall asleep, they liked being held or in the swing in the swaddle. Good luck and enjoy the new baby!

Do you have 211 or a similar resource number to call where you live? If so, call them. They can give you lots of info and numbers to call about any help you may need, from clothes to food to furniture and parenting classes even.
