Why do Marines have to be dumb?
Do you know how hard it is to successfully manuver in a fire fight? It takes a strategist to effectively manuver while taking cover and repelling the enemy. Just because we choose to take the harder path in the military doesn't make us dumb! HeII, whenever I'm around them, I've seen some stupid Air Force, Army, and Navy f*cks.

My Grandfather was a Marine in WW1. An uncle was a marine in WW2, Korea, and Vietnam. He was also a Drill Instructor. My Father's family lived near Paris Island, SC and I spent some time on the base there when I was younger. Judging by what I saw and what I knew about the Corps, I joined the army. I wanted no part of that organization.
My Son and I are both Veterans of the 82d Airborne Division.

I was in the Navy and now in the Army. While in the Navy I was informed all about the Marines first hand. They are tough workers who take orders very well. They have a little more pride in their branch. When it comes to promotions or career paths, I feel the Marine Corp is not the way to go. I feel the Marines are for motivated individuals who want to be in the military for a couple years and do their patriotic duty. In my bias opinion, I feel the Army's career paths are endless, but any military branch is extremely important for our country. HOO WAH and OOO RAH!

I joined the Marine Corp at the end of 1971. By the time I got through boot camp and AIT, the Vietnam war was winding down and the Marines were reducing their presence and overall size. I repeatedly tried to get my 1st Sgt to let me go recon, but recon was being reduced in size and they were contemplating it's elimination.
A couple of years after I got out of the corp, I heard about Air Force Pararescue. I joined and became a PJ. I loved it as much as I love being a Marine.

I signed up for Airborne and Europe, the Marines did not offer that. I'm retired now, got to Vietnam twice, Korea three times, Hawaii, Panama and almost Iraq, but still haven't gotten to europe.

The Navy offered what I wanted, and the Marine Corps didn't have that. Also, Sailors are taught to think before they act, whereas Marines are taught to follow orders - period - regardless of the outcome.

More career choices. Actually got to travel to places besides the sandbox. Dont have to live in Iraq for 1 year or more. Dont have to be completely brainwashed. Better living conditions. AIR FORCE actually requires more than half a brain.

USAF Academy offered me a degree for free, near gaurenteed pilot training, a dream of mine all my life. Plus I think AF has better bases, and more opportunities after serving. Thank God for the Marines, and thank God I'm not one of them!
