so it it the act of a slow and painful death that makes people fear it...or is it just the thought of being dead that freaks you out?

I'm worried about the process of dying...death, not so much. I don't want it to be painful, or long, or bloody, i just want to go in my sleep. If i could get a guarantee of that, I'd be grand.

(((Gandalf!!!)))

ADDED: after thinking about it for a minute...I also am afraid of the indignity of it all. I used to work in a nursing home and that, to me is the worst part about it. First your family sticks you away in this "cold" environment, and you wait, and strangers see you naked, and drooling, and in all sorts of ways you would never want ANYONE to see you, and then when you die, a stranger cleans up the mess (and beleive me, there's a mess) and the odds and ends that you have left are either mailed to your family or donated to a charity...then you're gone...ugh.

We were created never to die but of course sin entered so death is its wages.

I believe that man has an inborn natural aversion to death.

We all fear the unknown. Personally if I had a choice, I'd rather just go quickly rather than linger with a slow and painful death.

But either way I am okay with it because I have a risen Savior that took away my fear of death.

Of course, people fear dying so much that they make up a place called heaven so that you can supposedly live for an eternity. I say its the thought of being dead that scares me, like any other person who is not under the influence of whatever(drugs, religion etc.)

I've been close to death quite a few times in my life,

I have an incredible will to live: that part is in all creatures,

But I do not fear death,

I worry about my loved ones who depend on me..... this is would be the only "fear" I have of death.

Mine's a fear of not accomplishing what I would like to with my life. It's also about not getting to know grandchildren, and possibly even great-grandchildren. I do have a great fear of pain, and feel it more so than most.

For me, I fear how I'm going to die. I mean, if I had a choice between getting shot or drowning, I'd choose getting shot.

After that, I wonder about what goes on after that. I mean, one second ago I was still living, and now my body is...empty?

I no longer have a fear of death. I laugh at it. If you would like to be like this too I suggest reading Terry Pratchett's 'Reaper Man' a few times, then you'll laugh at DEATH too.

Lack of fear of death makes one more courageous and more likely to get themselves killed. It's favorable to fear death.

We start to die as soon as we are born. I think fear of death is the biggest catalyst for religion.
