ignorance.

Sometimes it's the way they are raised. Even if you know it's ignorant and wrong, it is hard to get past the prejudices you were taught as a child. In other cases, though, it's just personal preference. Everyone has certain characteristics that just turn them off. I don't like redheaded guys, for example. Nothing personal, I just don't find it attractive. For many people, it's the same with certain races.

Do you mean people outside of their own race? If that's the case, I think that a lot of people are motivated in their life choices both by tradition and fear. Or it may be that they simply don't find people of a certain ethnicity attractive as a partner. I certainly wouldn't want to imply that anyone who refuses to date outside of their race is necessarily a racist for that decision.

Other people refuse to date outside of their race because they are under the impression (or social pressure) to "preserve" the race. This is a particularly common attitude in minority populations in every corner of the world. It is also something that is common amongst devout religious groups.

There are some people however, who only date one specific race outside of their own race. The reasons for this have never been clear to me. I have one relative who, until very recently, only dated black men (much to the consternation of her father).

I'm pretty lucky - I find attractive people among all races and religions. Maybe I'm just horny, but I like to think it has to do with an appreciation of human aesthetics.

Some people are rasied with ideas that one race is better than another and some people are just mean. It may be a religious thing too. It's all how they were rasied so argue it and try and change their minds.

Oh it could also be how that perticular race treats them. For example most white men tend to hide their feelings until they really know you while some other cultures are more open and are willing to tell you up front that they like you and want to take you out.

I think people prefer to date who they think they (can) understand. We are scared of the unknown so we tend to stay within what we may consider a "safe' environment, so our own race. I believe it is ridiculous but the human race has a lot of ridiculous traits.
I hope most people will "date" people they like, regardless of the race. but some people get into the dating business and think that quantity will make them find quality.
Not a chance!!!

A cultural anthropology course at your local community college would answer this question. Albeit, some people would debate the answer. However, I would not be so quick to call it ignorance. I feel there are years upon years of evolutionary changes at work in our brains when we are searching for a mate; a modified version of 'survival of the fittest'? Maybe. blatant racism? Eh, Nope, unless otherwise (and obviously) stated. Who knows, this is all up for interpretation anyways.

It's a person preference.
I guess what others around you and your parents might think has a big effect on your decision also.
It also depends on where you grow up. I suppose interracial dating isn't common where one race dominates over the other.

But what would I know, I'm in an interracial relationship right now. and color really has nothing to do with it. I just love the person for who they are.

I think that people feel that way because most people are comfortable with their own race. . .or just one race in particular. Everyone has a preference.

Tradition. The majority of the people in this world are scared of change. Their ancestors have been mated with the same races. It is most likely that they are being forced by their parents, or it is their choice. They are just too afraid to change that.
