Theres probably a 'Display' button on the back somewhere you need to push either once or twice to take it off its energy saving mode (ie. no display while not being used)

First of all, what is the brand and model? It's hard to figure out what might be wrong without information about the camera itself.

Does it have an on/off display button? Check your manual.

How old is the camera? Maybe the screen has "burned" out.

Have you drop the camera? There are a lot of electronics in a digital camera that can break. The screen will probably be the first thing to actually malfunction.

Most all digital cameras that have a separate view finder have a menu setting option to turn the screen off or on so as to conserve battery usage. My Pentax DSLR even has a 1 sec. view setting just after taking a photo.

a lot of cameras have a setting where you can make the screen go black enabling you to use the viewfinder instead, play around with the buttons you should be able to figure it out

You have your LED screen off
Look for a button that resembles this [=].

Something close to that.
Good luck
