I know that i have a problem but i am too afraid to do anything about it, i dont have any friends that are close enough for me to talk to them about it, i tried to tell one of my friends but she kinda blew me off and hardly talks to me now. I really just need someone to talk to so i can get help. I am also very worried because there is a history of depression and suicide in my family.

I think you really need your parent's support, so maybe you can use the guidance counselor to explain to your parents how depression affect teenagers. I obviously don't know your parents, but there aren't many parents that are going to ignore a counselor that tells them that their child is at risk for suicide - they may have a hard time understanding what is going on at first, but once it sinks in that this is a serious problem for you, they will be there for you. You never know, maybe one of your parents may have been exactly in the same boat when they were your age.
It really doesn't make sense to suffer from depression - most people can completely get their mood back to normal within a short period of time with antidepressants, counseling, or both.
Maybe one thing you could do is to write down exactly how you feel, what the depression is doing to your life, what things are worrying you, and your fears about your parents and suicide. You could print it out and let your parents find it, give it to them directly, or use it with your counselor so they can share it with your parents.
I hope you find some solution. You can e-mail me if you want to talk with someone. I'm sure some of the other people that responded would gladly do the same.

You are right that you should do something about it, and as soon as you can. I don't know your age or location, so I'm just going to give you a whole list of possibilities -- one or more should fit your situation.
-- look up Suicide Prevention in your phone book and see if there's a hotline -- those I know about are confidential and very good at listening and helping you figure out next steps out of the depression -- or call the national hotline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255). Their website is http://www.suicidepreventionlifeline.org/ -- click on "get help" for more information and answers.
-- see your family doctor and be completely honest about how you're feeling -- he or she can make a referral to a counselor and/or possibly prescribe an antidepressant
-- if you're in school, talk with a counselor or teacher you trust; a teacher won't have the qualifications to do heavy-duty counseling, but will be able to help you find other resources in your area
-- if you're religious, talk to your pastor (assuming that he/she seems like someone who'll understand and be supportive)
-- get some good information about depression and suicide -- here are some good websites:
http://www.save.org/depressed/
http://www.psycom.net/depression.central.suicide.html
http://www.cdc.gov/ncipc/factsheets/suifacts.htm
Information won't take away the depression, but it may give you a little more sense of control while you're pursuing other solutions.
Hang in and don't give up. The depression is temporary and treatable, and you're not alone.

Yeah, I sort of have the same problem you do, not being able to talk to anyone about it. I really want help but I don't want anyone to know. Maybe reading a book with a character in it that has depression could help you some. You are not alone. If you want to ask me anything or just want someone to talk to then email me. Don't be afraid to. I'm around your age (i'm 15) and I've been depressed lately and have tried to commit suicide in the past. So maybe I can help. Hope I helped you somewhat.

Call someone now. Don't sit back and think about calling, just do it. Helpline numbers could be found in phone books, so don't worry about not being about to find the correct place to call.
I'll repeat myself, get some help now. I'm going to be blunt. Don't steal your own life when people are dying right now from causes beyond their help. So stay strong and put away your pride. Tell someone. And really think.
Is this what you want? To be another person in your family to cave in to an easy way out? No. You are better than that because you took the first step. So don't stop. Don't become another in the countless faces of those who committed suicide.
And don't do it.

no matter how down you are, you well eventually get back up. dont give up now keep on going and things will be better. Just because your family has a history of suicides doesnt mean you have to follow the same path. trust me things will get better dont cut yourself off now.

if you feel you cant talk to your parents, then dont listen to people encouraging you to. no one on yahoo knows your parents as well as you do. not everyone has good parents that they can go to with such information.
instead, go to your dr. tell your parents you need a physical for school if you need a reason why to go. then tell your dr about your depression. s/he will be able to help you from there.

See your family physician ASAP!!! I suffer from Bi Polar disorder (frantic mood swings among other symptoms) which sometimes goes hand in hand with depression and suicide thoughts. I'm on medication which is working great....please, for your sake and those who love you, see your doctor ASAP!!
Good Luck!!!!!
