The Harry Potter books are the classic struggle of good over evil, the story that has been told for centuries.
It's not a remake of the Bible, in that the Bible was intended to offer spiritual lessons and functions as the text for maintaining a church and a relationship with the divine.
Harry Potter is a fantasy tale for the entertainment of young (and not so young) people.
Different books, different purposes.

From what I know of harry potter I would say that if anyone believes in the bible they surely would believe all that nonsense harry potter is about. Actually they are not so far apart. They both profess what is not as waht is. The difference is that most people know the Harry Potter books are written for intertainment and the same people will claim that the bible is a true story or storys.

It's not a remake, bit it's a very common thing, more than many people realize, for authors to add cloaked biblical details into their work.
There are, of course, obvious examples such as "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy and the "Narnia" books. I have seen references in many other books. I have seen countless examples in the "Harry Potter" books. One example is that the power of love can destroy a great deal of evil.
Those who have not read the HP books cannot give a real answer to your question.
Some people will tell you that the magic mentioned in HP is evil but the magic in the other mentioned novels are good, yet they haven't even read the HP books.
I say read the books for yourself and decide for yourself whether your friend is right.

It's a damn story. Many writers have taken fascinating facts from the Bible and used them in movies, books, and plays.
The Bible is the most incredible piece of writing ever, because it is of God Himself.
If I was an author who wanted to write about a school of wizards, probably a really cool place to get ideas would be the Bible, don't you agree?
Oh, i'm Christian, by the way, and I have no problem with Harry Potter. Any person who's faith is so fragile that they would be worried about harry potter, has a faith problem to begin with. Its a piece of entertainment.

You friend needs to read the Bible first before trying to comment on it's contents. Harry Potter books are not good for you.

No, there is no comparison or anything that alludes to the Bible in any way in the Harry Potter books. Books such as the "Lord of the Rings" and "Narnia" series however do to some extent or another.

On the contrary, many people see Harry Potter as "work of the devil"...
How lame! I read the first four and loved them!

I don't think "remake" is the word you want. Maybe "allegory."
I've read the first two books, and there may be thematic elements that can be read in a Christian way, but I haven't really seen much more than in any other children's adventure novel. It's more of a "quest" or a "Hero's journey" story type.

Harry Potter was a pipsqueak of a wizard. I've still got him in remedial classes.
