Thanks for any suggestion. He is nearly potty trained. He goes out and does his business. In the past 2-3 days he has been lightly urinating in little stream around the house...they look like a line across the floor...like a string. He does this when we come home and let him out of his crate..he's very excited to see us...but he laso does it numerous times in the evening, this has just happened in the past few days.

what is going on?

It is called "excitement pee" This condition means that he gets so excited to see you that he just can't control his bladder. The bigger a deal you guys make out of it -- the worse the problem will get. You can help him control the problem by not talking to him when you first get home. Let him out of the crate when he is "calm submissive" meaning when he stops jumping around and acting like he is excited. Don't talk to him or pet him just open the crate and then open the door to take him out to go pee. when he has gone out and is calm then love on him and keep saying good doggier go pee outside -- he will eventually outgrow this condition. I would the next time I took him to the vet mention the excitement pee problem to the vet. They may know something I don't. I have a little dachshund who still has the problem and he is 5 years old. He controls it pretty good by my not talking to him when I first get home. I know that if I see him tensing up that he is trying to control his pee and I just leave him along and he usually gets control - good luck to you. -k-

He's just a puppy, and probably doesn't have total control of his bladder yet. (btw, congrats on having a 16 week old ALMOST trained). I would say let him out and immediately let him outside. If he has an accident, tell him NO firmly and take him out. Make sure you catch him in the act - it will be much more effective that way.
He'll probably outgrow it - may just be going through a phase of separation anxiety and gets over excited. Still, I would ask your vet. It could be a urinary tract infection or something like that.

My 2 labs were the same way when they were puppy's, what we did was not go to them right away, when we came home we would come in and just tell them to lay down and leave them in there for a few minutes without talking to them too much then let them out side right away,Cause we found if we walked in the house and went right over to them they would get soooooo excited they would pee, Good luck.......

Rule #1 with Dogs: They have very little short term memory. If you don't catch them in the act, there's no point in ATTEMPTING disipline because the dog will only get confused.

Rule #2 with Dogs: Look for their signals. EVERY dog has a different way of expressing "I need to go out but I can't turn the knob on the door because I don't have opposible thumbs!"
Watch for what he does and when you THINK he has to go, take him out. Eventually you will figure out what he is doing when he NEEDS to go out. And he will figure out that when he does a certain thing, you WILL take him out.

Rule #3 with Dogs: Don't teach your dog the word 'No' - use 'Stop', 'Halt', or something else when he is doing something he shouldn't be doing. The word 'No' comes up in too many human/human discussions, and your dog can become very insecure if he hears that constantly. Use a different word with him to get his attention, and ALWAYS preface it with his name to get his attention first!

His hormones are starting to kick in and this is territorial marking. Have him neutered ASAP, as after a certain point neutering will not stop the behavior as it will have become too ingrained, just like a bad habit.

It could be very excited to see you, but more likely that it is because he has been closed in his crate for too long and should have been let out earlier.

He may be marking his territory. Whenever you see him do this, scream "NO!!" and immediately scoop him up and take him outside. This should help greatly.
