I plan on getting a tattoo covering my entire right shin. First of all, what will be the difference in pain seeing as there's not much skin on top of the bone? Also, I have heard about tattoo fading, how much would one like this fade and what can be done to stop the fading? Anything else you think I should know, feel free to add.

The above is a very general way of answering your question. Aftercare depends a lot on the artist, everyone has their own thing. i personally dont recomend a&D because some versions contain a zinc oxide that will fade your colours more during healing and the average person wont stop to check the ingredients. At our shop we recommend prep H or light unscented cocoa butter. Make sure you give your fresh piece enough time to dry before applying the next day or it will infact cause scabbing. At LEAST 5 hours after your morning shower.

Besides that things like not exposing it to sun, picking off any scabs and going to a good artist will help make your piece better and less liekly to fade.

The main problem that causes fading is sun exposure . Tanning and ANY sun exposure even if its only a little on a daiuly basis can affect your tattoo. Certain colours are also more prone to fading. Whites, yellows, pinks, and pale colours are all more prone to fading out and needing to be retouched. However taking good care of your skin can mean that these colours can still look just as good as any other.
The best way to foil the sun is to use a good 35+ factor sunscreen with any sun xposure, and just make sure you keep reapplying every few hours.

The only other thing that can really affect your tattoo is the artist, a bad artists work can start to show deterioration after only 6 months or so. Spreading, blurring and even dissapearing can be symptoms of a bad artists work so be sure to check out where you go beforehand for cleanliness and their portfolios for their quality of work.

well, i take it this is ur first tattoo, so here goes....usually it hurts more on the bone then it does not, however everyone's pain tollerance is different so i can't say u will have a problem with it for sure.... all tattoos fade to a point, however ur tattoo arts will tell u to put a&d on it to help the healing process this will help it from getting infected, "chiping away" (scabbing that breaks up the tattoo), and drying out. also wash it with anti-bacterial soap, and when rinsing it off don't run the water directly on it, dab dry. all of this stuff will help ur tattoo help better which will help it not to fade. and when healing try not to have ur clothes rub on it. but like i said all tattoos fade, usually tattoo shops will do free touch ups ( well @ least in my area they do) and also u can get this stuff called inkfixz ( i think thats what its called) that will help the healing and it not to fade. good luck hun

I hate needles! The suggestion of giving blood makes my dermis move slowly, however I have 2 tattoos and sitting in a chair getting a tattoo isn't any predicament. However I will NOT get a tattoo wherever close the within of my elbow, the suggestion of that freaks me out much more.
