take the whole god aspect out of the scene, & you got this:

a servant comes to mary, a engaged woman, telling her that she is pregnant wih his masters child. worse yet, this master will only help from afar, it is up to her & her fiance to raise this child up right & proper.

put god back into the scenerio, & it's like many other stories that are labled under "mythology", like hercules.
put christianity into it, & it's "holy", "humbling", & "devine".

why?

Because they had no DNA paternity tests back then. Today, we would know Jesus's real father. In fact, I'm sure today every Christian would demand that anyone claiming to be Jesus take a DNA test... thus using science to prove or disprove his identity!

God is holy because He is perfect. He is goodness itself. The Holy Ghost is God (part of the Holy Trinity).

If a woman conceives by the Holy Ghost then it is a miraculous thing, a holy birth, and the Child will be truly divine.

In the case of Hercules and the other hundreds of children that the almighty Zeus fathered, you might remember that Zeus was INVENTED by the Greeks. He is not a real god. And even if he was a deity, he was certainly NOT holy. The guy had no moral standards and was an incorrigible womanizer!

It's not illegitimate because Mary is the Spouse of the Holy Spirit.
