I've been to the tanning bed and I haven't put on lotion(tanning lotion etc..) right before I've gone in. I asked the main lady and she said usually its for people who have reached their full potential of tanning, But she told me to make sure before I tanned my skin wasn't dry. Is this right?

No, you should definitely put on lotion..atleast SPF of 15. You'll just have to tan slowly. Tanning Beds have UV rays. People who use them (especially fair skinned people) are more susceptible to skin cancer. I would recommend doing mystic (spray) tanning, for the sake of your health. Tanning beds also age your skin faster. Be careful. Quit now and use Mystic tanning before it's too late. OR, Definitely use lotion.

Stagger.

Tanning beds are very bad for your health. especially if you are light complected. Yes, it's bad if you are darker complected also. But the beds have harmful UBV UBA rays. that damage your skin.

There are "healthier" ways to get that all over glow, such as spray on tans. [can be expensive and if not matched correctly to your skin, might make you orange] Or DIY tan in a can.

But if you insist on getting extra crispy in the metal death traps, I'd suggest you use a lotion with an SPF and not tanning lotions. Don't stay in there for too long. Since you are light skinned go for shorter amounts of time. If you have dry skin and you use a tanning bed you are going to look like a sun dried reptile. Good thing to do is apply cocoa butter after each shower. Try Palmer's.

Also, you should love the color you are. Beauty is natural, not artificial.

Good luck!

I dont know who would tell you that, but thats so dangerous. I know someone who owns a tanning salon and by law, he has to have wrtiien consent that you protect yourself with a tannin lotion specific for UV rays that come from tanning beds, not the kind you use when you lay out in the sun. AND because you are fair skinned, you especially should be using it. You are certainly going to damage your skin. Your skin should be dry and well moisturized from the tanning lotion. Do not tan again without this lotion, there are several to choose from and your tanning salon should have them for sale. If not, go somewhere different. She is not telling you the correct information.

I also have fair skin and I must advise you to stay away from tanning beds. Research has shown that people who have tanned 10 or more times per year are 7 times more likely to develop melanoma. The concentration of UV from a tanning bed is more concentrated than that from the sun. Tanning also causes premature aging. There are so many other alternatives for you to get a tan. There are spray on tans, lotions, etc. Your health is much more important than going for the leather look.

Hi.

Depends what lotion you mean. There is no point putting on sun blocker, obviously, because you want a tan in comtrolled circumstances.

But you should put on a moisturiser before and after going on the tanning bed or the skin will dry and wrinkle. And do not overdo it - after all, the tan you get from this or the sun is the result of skin damage.

I don't see why you would be concerned. It's not new information to anyone that tanning, more so in tanning booths than in sun, causes skin cancer. WHY you are willing to risk this i don't know. If you have been fortunate enough to avoid cancer in yourself, or anyone that is close to you, you are being very ignorant to the consequences. There are many people who have incredible stories of fighting cancer. There are also many people who fought, and lost. I find it disgraceful that one would risk this for such a superficial reason. Not only are you not even experiencing nature to get the tan, but you're going to get a tacky orange tan, and with fair skin, you're probably paying for a burn. Isn't there something better you could spend your money on?

Not neccesarily but if your not going to use a tanning lotion then at least use a moisturizer or it will make your skin dry. I have very fair skin also and I did the same thing -I didn't use any tanning lotion and I noticed my skin got very dry.

Tanning beds not only dry out yor skin & lead to early wrinkles & age skin faster ... they can also lead to melanoma. I was just diagnosed. Don't take chances. Even after chemotherapy and radiation I'll have to be followed every 3 months for 2 years and every six months for 5 years, then yearly for 15 years.

If you are fair you are at an even higher risk

hi kim w,

yes, you should never allow your skin to get dry before or after tanning........i made that mistake and i'll probably never get over it. my skin dried up like the desert and it was very difficult to retain moisture in my skin after that. but i must admit that i definitely over-did and turned really dark for a caucasion. my skin has never been the same since. and now i've just been told i have skin cancer so please tread with caution !!!!!!! and never, never ever tan without using some kind of SPF lotion
