There are a lot of auto sales programs out there. When I worked at a big dealership, we used APB (automotive profit builders). I think there were 17 steps to the sale. The main object after qualifying, demo, and test drive was sitting the customer down, offering a refreshment, getting his info, then hitting the customer at full sticker with the phrase "The selling price is $25,000, when purchasing the vehicle, when do you want to take delivery?" Usually the customer will voice his objection or condition at this point, the salesperson then backs off and goes and checks "availability". We do this for two reasons 1. to back off and give you some breathing room, 2. get together with the sales manager and figure out how to get you to buy the car. If you still can't sell it, then the closer comes in, and all he is going to do is cost you money, because he'll throw that at the customer to get him to buy the car.
I'm the sales manager for a small used car lot, and have a lot more freedom to work my own deals. I just ask for the sale straight up, I do not pussyfoot around. I find that I hold more gross that way. But I will discount if I have to, but you have to make the customer work for it. I find most customers want a straight up answer. In closing, after qualifying ,be honest but firm, do not get pushed around, ask for the sale, if you did your job right, you should get it.

- Your not going to find a better deal than this ... I would buy it myself if it was me.
- If I can get a payment you can afford can we do business today.
- You can find a cheaper car but thats all your buying a cheaper car not a quality vehicle.
Ahahahaha

One of their favorite lines is:
"What will it take for you to buy today"???
OR
"What do I have to do to get you to buy today"????
OR
"If I can get you low enough pmts, will you buy today"????
(I just remembered another one):
"This is a GREAT deal, but it's only good today"
