No, it only makes Microsoft Windows systems run a little faster. This is because the Microsoft Windows operating system relies on a badly written set of filesystems, such as NTFS. These file systems essentially "fragment" files, and "defragmenting" them helps to put them how they should have been in the first place. So, if you're running Mac OS X, Linux or anyt other OS - don't worry about it! If you're running Windows, navigate using the "Start" menu to "System Tools".

Look on youtube, or google. Just type the name of the language and "tutorial" on your searches. I would recommend you get a Linux or BSD operating system if you are going into programming. Not only is it easier to get compilers, but Linux provides better support for programming software. Also, you can reprogram anything on the operating system, so it's easier to learn and lots of fun to tinker with. Here are some languages you should start with: Java Python C++ C Ruby Perl With java, you need to download the java platform to compile and run your programs.

This is included with Windows.
Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Disk Defragmenter.
You have to remember to do it though.
Thats why I use "Diskeeper 8.0 Pro".
It does it for me on a regular schedule.
