Skin tags are caused by friction. This could be from necklaces, skin on skin, etc. You can use a pair of scissors to cut the tag or tie thread around them to cut off the blood supply which will cause them to fall off. At the drs office where I work they also use liquid nitrogen to freeze them and a hyfercator to burn them off.

Skin tags can run in families so if your parents have them, you're likely to as well. I think skin tags are just an overgrowth of skin, I don't believe it has a discovered cause. As we age, our noses grow longer, as does our ears. The skin tags are just another manifestation of this growing of skin as we age!
And yes, people used to tie them off, choking the blood supply. Then it would dry up. But, I found a better, quicker way. If I have one that is small and sticks out enough for me to get a hold of it with tweezers, I just cut that puppy off with manicuring sizzors. You would think it would hurt, but it doesn't if you do it quick!

I just looked skin tags up & what causes them on Yahoo. Nobody knows for sure
what causes them. Type in 'what causes skin tags' and you can do a little bit of
research on it. Also, check the Mayo Clinic Website.
