This is a very subjective question. Nobody is going to agree on what is the "best" cue stick or even what makes one cue stick better than another. It's rarely a matter of price, although up to a certain point, you will get what you pay for. Below $100 and you're likely playing with a Wal-Mart special. Anything you pay beyond $500 is likely due to a cue's collectibility and expensive materials. I'm guilty of being in the second category due to the collectibility of my cue. If a person understands enough about cues, then it becomes clear that the best playing cue in the world is a straight, one-piece house cue with a properly rounded tip, probably retailing for around $25. Of course, it just isn't practical to carry a 58" cue around with you. There are many factors to take into consideration when selecting a cue. If this is your first cue, don't spend a fortune on it. The reason being, that you probably don't know what you like in a cue and you'll be getting another one before too long. For me, the third time was the charm. My first cue was a McDermott, the second was a Viking, and now I play with a Ray Schuler custom cue. It took me time to find what I really wanted in a cue and what makes one cue superior to another. I don't especially like to endorse specific products publicly as it causes so much debate, so I'll leave it at that. Best of luck. M.D.-BCA Instructor/Referee.

Most players like wood better because of the way it feels. If you are going to get a fiberglass cue, you'd be better off going with the wood with fiberglass coating over it. Cuetec makes probably the best type of those sticks. The advantage of fiberglass coating over wood is that it is much more warp resistant and the shaft doesn't ding very easy. The fiberglass can become sticky (on the shaft) after awhile, but using some fairly fine grain sandpaper (320 grit) and sanding it lightly will actually make it more easy to slide than wood. Alison Fisher the world champion won this stick for over a decade and they are about $100. If you're going to buy a wood stick, I'd pay closer to $150-200 and get a low end Joss, Falcon, Viking or try out a few other good wood cues and see what you like. Overall, it's important that you like the stick.

It's not in the cue stick, man. It's your game. The great Efren Reyes uses a local (Philippines-made) stick and he's still the king of the pool table. Any cue stick, as long as it's straight and through with a good tip, will do.

My preference would be the Predator...not what I would call a "pro" player but this stick really does everything that you would want from one....aside from shooting for you.....a good started cue would be a Cobra....about $100.....but go to the Predator website and see if this stick doesn't answer some questions about shooting that you haven't thought about yet.....you could start with a "sneaky pete"...either way you will have to step up ($$) a little more with one of these cues but for what its worth....I have had mine for over 12 years and you can always replace the shaft.....good luck on the tour!!

Remember sticks dont make shots players do the diffrence in a 100 dollar stick you can play with and a 10,000 dollar stick is 9,900 dollars if it shoots good for you dont pay for a name you cant pronounce
