I have a cat and she sometimes does that too with bread. She licks it off my hand and just swallows it cause the faster she swallows it, the more she will get and she knows that, lol. So I think that may be the reason.

well my cats and dog does same way if theyre really hungery , but in case you dont need to worrying so much cause if youre cat looks alright now and isnt even feeling weird then its not harmin the cat . . maybe next time you should try to break the cat dry food into little prices so that the cat cant swallow the whole thing at once.

I had a cat growing up that did this (she's actually still alive, I just dont live with my parents anymore and she does). She threw up a lot, because the whole food would bother her tummy...but she's 16 and still really healthy. I don't think its dangerous at all. You may have to clean up after her a few times when she throws it all back up :) so really its more annoying than dangerous for the cat.

My brothers cat does the same thing. His cat was abandoned by his mother shortly after birth and had to fend for himself. The first time he was fed he inhaled his food to the point of vomiting. Since them he's regulated the amount he can eat, but he still doesn't chew his food. There doesn't seem to be any problem with it, they do digest their food and gain all the nutrients from it.

If your worried about a tooth problem, check for broken teeth. It won't be easy because cats don't usually like their mouths held open. But if you have someone to help you its a little easier.

I hope you're feeding kitten food. The pieces are smaller and easier for the little ones to handle. Swallowing the dry food shouldn't hurt. If I were you I'd look in your kitten's mouth to make sure all is well. If you want to encourage her you might want to dampen it with some Kitten Milk Replacer (KMR), She might be really, really hungry. If you haven't taken her to the vet for her first visit, now is the time.

One of mine does that too, although he will occassionally crunch one or two. I read somewhere that a cat's teeth are designed to tear up flesh, not crunch on dry biscuits (hee hee hee). Personally, I think that cats who swallow their kibble without chewing on them are either: (a) gluttonously hungry and in a hurry to get as much food down to tummy as fast as possible; (b) have teeth issues which make it painful to chrunch on dry food; (c) just do it because they discovered that they can.

How old is he? May have gum disease..... or the food kibble may already be small, I dont know as there isnt enough info in what your asking. you can try to dampen his dry food with a spray of water from a water bottle sprayer.... just so it be able to swallow better and avoid choking...... situation still not known (age of cat, size of food, type..etc...)

Not chewing food can just be greedy behavior however it is NOT normal to do all the time. Not chewing hard food is a sign that their teeth/mouth hurts. This could be caused by several different things from mild infection to a cut that cant be seen to gum disease and more. I definately recommend taking her to the vet for an exam.

As long as the cat isn't choking, there probably isn't a problem. Watch the cat and if it gets worse or something happens let the vet check it out.

I dont know if all breeds do that, but I know Siamese cats dont chew..they just grab and swallow. Its natural for them.
