well running takes up energy. The heart starts beating faster and faster the more you run. The heart starts beating and pumps blood and oxygen to parts of you body. It's part of your Circulatory System I believe.

It is ultimately a response to oxygen demand by muscle tissue.
Running exercises large muscle groups, which increases their need for oxygen.
Oxygen is supplied by blood.
To get more blood to the muscles faster the pulse rate goes up.

Whenever you run, your body uses up more energy and oxygen. The heart's job is to pump blood through your body, which is the main carrier for oxygen, which provide the ability for your muscles to make energy. With increased activity, your heart would too increase it's activity.

basically:
the muscles are not getting the amount of oxygen they need to work properly, so they basically go into oxygen deprivation and use lactic acid for energy...the pulse rate increases to try and get more oxygen to the tissues so that will function more efficiently...

Your heart has to beat faster in order to supply more oxygen to all of the cells of the body...like muscles which burn energy to create work. Cellular Respiration requires oxygen at the cellular level...this is what allows the human body to create "Work".

the muscle cells need more oxygen to continue the Krebs Cycle of cellular respiration
this oxygen is delivered by the blood, so the heart pumps faster to get the blood their faster and more often

Your muscle tissues use oxygen and this comes out of your lungs as you breathe in air. As your prefer for oxygen will develop because of the fact your muscle tissues are working no longer hassle-free then your coronary heart cost will develop to get greater oxygen, carried interior the blood, to the muscle tissues that prefer it.

Because your heart is pumping harder to provide blood, (and thus oxygen) to your extremities. When you're expending energy, your body needs to replenish it immediately. This is exactly what the heart does.
