While JRT's are very affectionate, they can be very distuctive-even more so than a large dog (I had two at one point) because of their need to expend their energy. It does not make a good starter dog after the previous situation with your grandmother, especially if it's in a small living area- trust me. If allowed, get a dog that is less hyperactive and better suited for small spaces, like a pekinese or a shi tzu. If you still want a Jack Russel, get one that is either previously trained or have someone professionally train it. It would be doing both the dog and yourself good.

I have a jack russell and he is a hand full. He's like having 5 dogs. Its not a good choice. If you are dead set on a dog you should go to the animal shelter the people who work there know the dogs and they will be able to help you find a dog to suit your living arrangements.

A JRT is a LOT of dog, especially when that dog will be in a small apartment with a person who does not like him. Please wait for a better home situation for yourself - this is a recipe for disaster! Broken heart for you AND for the dog that you'd bring into this situation.

Umm srry to break it to ya, but a jackrussell would not be good in that sitch. They are 2x as energetic as Labs in my experience. Maybe go to a shelter and let the magic work, you may find another dog you will fall in love with.

must be honest, if she did not appreciate the lab she will not like the jack rats at all - they are extremely affectionate and extremely hyper, playful, destructive - need open spaces to run and play and burn off some of that seemingly endless energy - close quarters would not work with that type dog

i have a jack russel myself, and unless you buy one who is already trained it will chew on your furniture. also jack russell's are very hyper active dogs, they need to be walked a lot, they need a lot of exercise and they are very strong. the dog park will allow it to stay calm, but it will take a lot of patience and time for you to teach it decipline. you may want to tell your grandmother, that they are kind, loving and Compassionate dogs that will always protect her. and once they are trained can be very helpful.

Not if anyone in the house is not going to get along with it. I know it can be hard, I live with my grandma while I go to college and I miss my dog terribly!!!
