does damaged, unshiny hair turn shiny again when you treat it or does it stay the same? i have non shiny hair and i was wondering if i really have to wait for it to grow out before it is shiny again.

i use head&shoulders shampoo but i don't think it helps my hair.
oh and why do you have to trim split ends?

It can shine again, but you'll have to repair the damage. Head and Shoulders is not a good choise. Don't use it unless you really need it for dandruff problem. Use good mild shampoo and good conditioners. I have bleached hair, it was very damaged in bleaching (hard to avoid that) but with good shampoo and conditioner it got its shine back. I use Charles Worthington shampoo and conditioner. It seems to keep my hair in good shape.
Also, consider taking fish oil supplement (capsules). It makes your hair and skin better. A word of warning - do not exceed the recommended dose, it is dangerous.

I don't subscribe to the idea that trimming your hair will make it shinier or will actually solve the split ends problem. You need to treat the problem AND trim the uneven ends. But if you trim it without solving the problem that causes it - it will split again.

Head and Shoulders is a medicated shampoo. There is no need to put these chemicals on your hair. It's almost like using flea medication on yourself without any need for that. Ask your mom to buy you something else. Pert Plus would be be already an improvement - same price range, no medication. Or like I said, Charles Worthington (sold in drugstores), or any of the Wella or Schwarzkopf line. Those you can only find in beauty supply stores or salones

OK! So I'm taking it you want shiney hair? First find a hairstylist (does not need to be expensive) and have your hair cut. Do this every 6-8 weeks and soon your hair won't have any more splits and will be healthier. Second Check out from the library or by Paula Begoun's Don't Go Shopping for Hair-Care Products Without Me...this will help you find the BEST hair care products for your hair and you'll be amazed what is good on the cheap(I used to spend tons on shampoo that messed with my hair).

Blondes — Add a couple of tablespoons of lemon juice to your rinse water.
Brunettes and Redheads — Add a couple of tablespoons of apple cider vinegar to your rinse water.

Also the last minute of your shower rinse your hair in ONLY cold water- this is horrible(cold) but it causes the cuticles in your hair to close and allow more sun to bounce off of it.It REALLY WORKS!

Damaged hair is difficult to shine. Good treatments will help and good quality products as well. Head and Shoulder completely strips the hair. It is actually one of the stringer things out there. Get something else, that will moisturizes and revitalizes your hair a bit. You must trim your ends as well if your want your hair to look healthy. Split ends happen because of damage to the hair follicle. Blow dryers, straighteners and chemicals hair dyes make them brittle and they split up. You will remedy this by getting A PROFESSIONAL cut with good scissors. Your house scissors are no good and will only re-split your ends. Good luck and never skip conditioner!
