Here are the requirements for a UK student visa: The applicant ---

has been accepted for a course of study at a publicly funded institution of higher education, or a bona fide private education institution which maintains satisfactory records of enrolment and attendance, or an independent fee paying school outside the maintained sector.

will attend a full time degree course

intends to leave the United Kingdom at the end of their studies

will not work, except with the consent of the Secretary of State for Education and Employment; and

can meet the costs of their course and accommodation and maintenance and that of any dependants without taking employment or engaging in business or having recourse to public funds.

As in the US, foreign students in the UK are not entitled to apply for permanent residence (which could lead eventually to citizenship). This is because the laws specifically state that they must intend to leave the UK at the end of their studies.

On the other hand, under a special concession, people who have been lawfully in the UK for ten years may apply for permanent residence even if they were not legally resident (with ‘leave to remain’) for part or all of that period. This is not automatic right and each case is viewed on its own merits.

You first said you are a US citizen, then you said, you want to eventually get a US citizenship. If you do not know if you are a citizen or not, how are we to know.
