"The market niche of people with bad credit is fortunately seen as a business opportunity by many financial institutions that are willing to invest in it."
I found this information at http://www.creditapply.org/blog/... under the posting "How can I get a credit card with bad credit".
They list a few credit card for people with bad credit but also warn you that poor credit rating will cost you money
"When looking for a credit card with bad credit you should expect to be offered a pretty high interest rate. You may also be offered cards with an annual fee – don’t turn them down straight away as the fee might bring your typical Annual Percentage Rate (APR) down. "
Some of the cards they list are
Imagine Gold Card
First PREMIER Bank MasterCard
Centennial Gold MasterCard(r)/Visa APR
and others.
They also have tips on how to use the card to better your credit.

First, you need to figure out how bad your credit is. If your credit score is lower than 620 you have poor credit, the score between 620 and 660 - fair credit (it's not too good either). There are all kinds of cards for poor credit: gasoline cards, student credit cards, frequent flyer cards. You can find those at http://www.low-interest-credit-cards-offers.com/Bad-Credit-Card-Offers-923018-page.php
You can also get a secured credit card.

" Go for a rewards Credit Card:
Reward credit cards reward you when you spend on the credit card. Normally, you can collect rewards through 3 ways.
* It involves earning cash back on the card, it depends on the amount you spend.
* Next one involves giving points to the customers. They can be redeemed for gifts like cosmetics, shoes, water heater, mobiles and other goodies which the credit card company offers.
* The last method of reward is providing airmiles. Airmiles are highly popular reward, as many customers like to redeem them for free flights or flight upgrades. Whatever type of reward credit card you opt for, carefully note the amount or rate at which rewards will accrue and also read carefully other terms and conditions."

I just got a Chevron gas card. True, it's not major, but hopefully it might help if I use it a little bit. My credit sucks.
