[Not meant for or about Christians who really don't care what other people's religions are] Why is it here on Y!A that...
... Christians cannot take something that is pointed out to be ONLY a joke?
... Christians expect Pagans, Atheists, Agnostics, and whomever else may be on here to sit through their 90 paragraph explanation of why Jesus Christ is Lord and Savior and why the person who wrote the question should be Christian?
... when Pagans or Atheists try to explain their point of view non-offensively and give a lengthy explanation, all the Christians give those answers thumbsdown?

Just for the record...
... I'm a Pagan, and out of RESPECT for my fellow human kind, I SIT through the answers and read EACH AND EVERY ONE OF THEM even if I don't agree. So, no, Pagans, Atheists, etc. don't all do the same thing.

Loki: As a Christian, I would say, that an open mind is a mark of superiority, as well as, the "art" of attacking the issue at hand and not the person who raises the issue.
Looking objectively, at both sides of the "coin", I can see that as much as Christians (not all), feel that he or she must "say" something to give ANY answer to a question posed, there are equally so, Agnostics and Atheists who do likewise. Being presumptuous is a trait of human nature. When coupled with ignorance, this presents a very competitive field. A word to the wise would be to retain a objective and open mindset. We all can learn from one another provided the attitude is right and the information forwarded is factual.

Hello;
I'm a Christian, and I love a good joke from anybody - you don't have any good ones tonite, do ya? (i need a good joke tonite) -
Anyway, I see what you mean about people putting really long, drawn out writings of Bible verse after Bible verse, obviously cut and paste jobs, and I wouldn't want to sit and read all of it, either.
But keep in mind that I am probably one Christian who would be condemned for being too wordy. But I don't write Bible verses, unless I specifically need to in order to answer the question. But in order to answer a question, like "Will the rapure really happen, and if so, how exactly?" -
Understand that you can't answer a question like that in three lines, ya know???
Don't forget if ya have a joke, send it, ok?

One could ask the same of the Pagans and atheists. You may be an exception but practically none of them even bother to read christian answers.Anyway,if they don't like the answers they should'nt ask the questions.

I can take a joke.
I don't care for the 90 page answers myself.
I, too read the points of view of pagans, athiests and all other serious posts.
I never give a thumbs down unless someone posts something vile or extremely rude.
"Love thy neighbor"--Jesus...............I totally agree.
And I fully expect to see at least one thumbs down to this answer. :)

I for one am not sure what you are referring to because some of the questions that I see with regard to Christianity from those who are not Christians, do not seem to be innocently joking. They have the appearance of intentionally being mean and making fun of our beliefs and the God we serve. I have also seen questions asked by those who are not Christians, where the asker was sincerely trying to understand why Christians believe a certain way. I have always tried to respond with the consideration and respect that I would hope others would give to me, but I have not found it funny, but rather offensive, when some people have chosen to ask questions deliberately aimed at being rude towards Christians. One can call it a joke, but if the same attitude were displayed toward a gay person or a minority, then the person displaying that attitude would be considered a homophobe or a bigot/racist. People don't take things as a joke when the intent is so obviously coming across as mean-spirited, as to offend others. I have been able to discern between those who are obviously just trying to be humorous versus those who are making fun of Christians for the purpose of being mean.
I'm all for joking around and being funny - just not when it comes at the expense of a particular group of individuals or their beliefs. If those making fun of us had the tables turned on them, you can believe that we Christians would be labeled as being mean, intolerant and judgmental. In fact, that is exactly what I personally have seen a lot of in these forums. I have seen many people who don't believe in God getting mad at Christians whose answers they take offense to because they come across as judgmental and making fun of at times. It works both ways.
As to loving thy neighbor, as quoted by Jesus, I agree with you completely. If we all practiced that principle, whether or not we believed that Jesus is the Son of God, then we would all get along a lot better. As to Christians giving people thumbs down who have different points of view, there is nothing wrong with that. I get thumbs down all the time from those who disagree with my point of view. It's called free speech and the freedom to have an opinion. If people give me thumbs down, I'm not going to label a group of people because of that. Sometimes thumbs down responses come from too lengthy answers, and sometimes a person just doesn't agree with what someone says. No harm in voting one's opinion. That said, bring on the thumbs down, as I am confident my answer will elicit many of those types of responses.

It's the whole tolerance thing. Some people are more naturally tolerant of others.
It's not ALL Christians here that do this. There are many who have the love and acceptance and peace in their heart and show it who give loving and thoughtful answers to many people, and don't feel the need to quote lengthy scripture to make their point. They make their point by their very existance and that, IMHO is the future of Christianity.
Blessings,
Zimmi

i feel it is because people who have a strong belief that there view of the world is the right one find it hard to accept the views of others who don't share their belief and spend, to quote the bible, " too much time looking at the speck in their brothers eye without noticing the log in their own", so lots of effort is put into defending their corner instead of, as you so rightly point out, loving one and other

Like you, we're entitled to our say, and entitled to give thumbs-down where we choose. I don't dispute your right to say what you want, but don't you tell me what opinions I can or can't express! I know those 90-paragraph explanations you refer to, and they get on my nerves too. So you know what? I don't read them! And going back to the thumbs-down issue you raised: I have people on here who automatically give one to anything I say, because they know I am a Christian. I shrug my shoulders and go on, I suggest you do the same. God bless you.

Because Christians are horrible people.
Sorry, but I'm really p/oed right now. A girl just insulted my dead grandfather's memory. A Christian girl. What the **** happened to treat others as you want to be treated?
Want to know why I care so much, and why I broke down in tears at this? (I know you don't but I'm going to tell you anyways!) Because he died January 12, 2007.
As in a little over 3 months ago. And the first anniversary of my grandmother's death was on February 2nd.
I hate people who say stupid ****, and that girl gave Christians everywhere a bad name!
Kudos to whoever gave me the thumbs up. Truely, I was expecting many more thumbs down!
