A man and his dog were walking along a road. The man was enjoying the scenery, when it suddenly occurred to him that he was dead. He remembered dying, and that the dog walking beside him had been dead for years. He wondered where the road was leading them.

After a while, they came to a high, white stone wall along one side of the road. It looked like fine marble. At the top of a long hill, it was broken by a tall arch that glowed in the sunlight.

When he was standing before it he saw a magnificent gate in the arch that looked like mother-of-pearl, and the street that led to the gate looked like pure gold. He and the dog walked toward the gate, and as he got closer, he saw a man at a desk to one side.

When he was close enough, he called out, "Excuse me, where are we?"

"This is Heaven, sir," the man answered.

"Wow! Would you happen to have some water?" the man asked.

"Of course, sir. Come right in, and I'll have some ice water brought right up."

The man gestured, and the gate began to open.

"Can my friend," gesturing toward! his dog, "come in, too?" the traveler asked.

"I'm sorry, sir, but we don't accept pets."

The man thought a moment, and then turned back toward the road and
continued the way he had been going with his dog.

After another long walk, and at the top of another long hill, he came to a dirt road leading through a farm gate that looked as if it had never been closed. There was no fence.

As he approached the gate, he saw a man inside, leaning against a tree and reading a book.

"Excuse me!" he called to the man. "Do you have any water?"

"Yeah, sure, there's a pump over there, come on in."

"How about my friend here?" the traveler gestured to the dog.

"There should be a bowl by the pump "

They went through the gate, and sure enough, there was an old-fashioned hand pump with a bowl beside it.

The traveler filled the water bowl and took a long drink himself, then he gave some to the dog.

When they were full, he and the dog walked back toward the man who was standing by the tree.

"What do you call this place?" the traveler asked.

"This is Heaven," he answered.

"Well, that's confusing," the traveler said. "The man down the road said that was Heaven, too."

"Oh, you mean the place with the gold street and pearly gates? Nope.
That's Hell disguised as Heaven."

"Doesn't it make you mad for them to use your name like that?"

"No, we're just happy that they screen out the folks who would leave their best friends behind."

hi i am sorry for your loss.I lost my dog called max last November, i thought i would never get over him going i cried at just seeing a dog on TV, a dog that looked like him any think that i could relate to max and i said i could never go through that again so more dogs. After a few months i started to calm down and in April of this year i thought the time was right to get another dog which i did from dog trust. So what i am saying is take your time, cry do what ever but you will know when the time is right to get another dog but you will never forget holly and there will still be times when you will still need a good cry but it does improve with time. I have to admit i had a cry when reading your story which started me thinking of my own loss. Good luck.

It's a matter of belief. If you feel your beloved pets are awaiting for you with those you loved on earth, in the afterlife. Who are we to discredit that? Just because it may not fit into my, or anyone Else's belief structure, doesn't make you wrong. Continue to believe that. . . Stand up for it and hold true to it. When the end times come, only you will know what exists in your world.

Anniekd, you may not have looked at animals close enough. I see more soul in some animals than I have seen in most humans. And many confuse instinct with unconditioned faith and compassion. God loves unconditionally. I've heard some say that of dogs.

We can all only hope that is what happens. Life here and there wouldn't be the same without our pets. By the way, I don't think you're at all nuts. More people need to be able to ask questions like that.

Nah, you're not nuts, but I disagree. I think God's creation was made without spirits with the exception of humans, but I wouldn't be surprised if there were animals in heaven. I just don't think they can move from one to the other like people. The Bible says in Ephesians 2:8-9, "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast." so "living a good life" doesn't cut it for people, and animals don't seem to have faith in God.

Back to animals, I know animals have wonderful personalities, they show love, anger, peacefulness, excitement, but having a personality doesn't mean you have a soul. They are actually two very different things.

You're not nuts! I personally believe they do as well-all animals. You're soul needs a spirit guiding. Animals need they're soul guided up to heaven too. ;)

It wouldn't be any Heaven I'd want to go to if they weren't there with me. So I very much like to think yes.
