you CAN but it isn't advisable. there is always a risk involved with getting a tattoo including staph infection or even hepatitis. if you get tattooed while pregnant or breastfeeding the baby any infection would be passed on to the baby and could be very harmful and potentially fatal. it is best to wait. most shops won't do it.

I asked my doc the same question and she said that if i can wait to wait. But if I do it make sure that shop is clean ect...ect..ect...everything you hear before you get a tattoo anyway. They told me if I get an infection and it needs to be treated with an antibiotic then I would be limited to what I could take becasue of BFing. So I took the chance (witch was not really a "chance" to me I knew the shop very well and the artist is my friend) and got a Tattoo and nothing happened like I thought. So mostly it is up to you.

It's not advised to donate blood for about 14 months after your last tattoo..I'd wait until you're finished breastfeeding.

So, as long as you hold your new ink sparkling from an infection, you will desire to be wonderful.

yes. the ink/pigments used for tattoos are localized...as in they don't circulate throughout the body. find a shop with a good reputation. make sure they autoclave their instuments rather than cold sterilize...they will show you everything if you ask. a sterile pack from an autoclave will have tape on it to seal the wrapped pack. if there are black stripes on the tape, it's sterile. some shops use new needles/needle bars with each customer that are also sterile. hope you have a good experience.

need to ask your doctor, your pedi and maybe the lactation center through your hospital...you could also contact la leche...I got one done....the ink cells are too large to get into your milk ducts but you really need to make sure that EVERYTHING in the place that you're going to is sanitized, autoclaved and new.

I went and spoke to my tattoo artist, la leche, my doctor and my daughter's pedi and the lactation center prior to getting mine.

I can't say for sure, but you really shouldnt. The ink gets into the blood stream, and I wouldn't be surprised if it gets into the breast milk too. that's why they advise you not to get one when you're pregnant or shortly before you get pregnant.
