Someone just asked if was a sin to pleasure yourself. Several people said the bible said it was. Are you reading a different Bible than I have? Guess if you try hard enough, you can make the bible say it's wrong to do anything.

Okay, I just had this discussion with my husband the other night. Nowhere in the Bible does it say, unless I've missed it, that it is a sin to pleasure yourself. If I am wrong, forgive me!

The King Bubba verison of the King Billy Bob verison of the King James verison of the Bilbe states in the book of "Stop That or Ye shall go Blind" Chapter 21 Verse 12 "Ye shall not use the excuse that bring pleasure to thy self is good practice for milking the Goats & Cows. We now can't stop those animals from hanging around your bedroom window."

There's a reference to Onan if you really want to look. But that story is baloney, like most passages in the bible.

Denominations pick and choose what they want to emphasize, then alter the details to their liking. There are no passages against abortion or stem cell research in the bible. But there's a law prohibiting shellfish right by the one saying that homosexuality is a sin in Leviticus. You get plenty of groups against gays, but you don't see Christians swearing off seafood and picketing Red Lobster in town, or demanding that we don't mix cotton and polyester in Walmart clothing (mixing fabric's another no-no).

So here's a better answer to your question. I swear, the real reference to biblical masturbation is in Ted Haggard's copy of the Bible. Really. He's the guy who preached "God knows what you did last night," so I figure he'd know best. If you discounted his meth use and sex scandal, of course.

To respond to previous posters: The "waste your seed" is completely bogus, even from the standpoint of the bible. Sperm is reabsorbed into the body when it is not used. That's the same as if it were destroyed through other means. Furthermore, women ovulate on a cyclical schedule that is not affected by sex or masturbation.

I say toss all religious baloney out the window and start to think for oneself.

Some people believe Genesis 38:9 is about masturbation. But for the most part the bible is silent about it. However, Jesus said that if you lust after a woman you have already committed adultery with her in your heart. So, I feel that the physical act itself (masturbation) is not a sin, but what we are thinking about when we do it can make it a sin.

i'm not protecting it, merely clearing that up. Catholics and different religions that have faith interior the bible have faith that intercourse might desire to be performed as a manner to create new existence. additionally they have faith in marriage and the union of a guy and a woman. So, *deep breath* i think intercourse formerly marriage could be a sin because of fact maximum folk are not waiting for a newborn formerly marriage and intercourse might desire to in basic terms be performed to make a newborn and a newborn might desire to have a mom and a father? additionally, masturbation is a waste of sperm or whatevs, idk.

It doesn't. the bible doesn't say that it is a sin to pleasure yourslef, but if you are pleasuring yourself in the wrong way such as commiting fornication, adultry, lying and getting your way, cheating to please yourself, or killing or hurting someone because you like too then it is a sin and the Bible does say those things are sins.

Let me ask you, what's your thoughts just before and while you "pleasure" yourself? What woman are you defiling? Neighbors wife or daughter? That is your biggest problem. There are plenty of verses that address that. The fact that you even ask a question about if it's right or wrong, gives you a clue.

The Bible is not silent on this. For those who do not have a bible (you know who you are) find one online and do a text search for "wasting his seed". They did not use the word masturbate in the bible.
No really try looking for it instead of just disagreeing. I thought you asked?

the bible mentions something about wasting a man's seed but some christians disagree that the verse meant masturbation. iguess it's still open for debate.

i guess you could also read between the lines of "committing adultery in your thoughts"

Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body. Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body. 1 Cor. 18-20

We house the Holy Spirit in our bodies at all times. Our God is within us wherever we go. Furthermore, our bodies were bought for a price. Our bodies and souls are one, they are not seperate. When we use our body in a way that is questionable, we are doing that same wrong to God--literally because he is apart of us, and because our body was meant for him. Masturbation may not be specifically mentioned, but it doesn't have to be. If every single sin was listed the Bible would be huge AND boring. Don't try and rationalize it, that's you talking, not God. Honor Him, with your body.
