What is the minimum income required for filing state and federal taxes?

That depends upon your filing status and the source of the income.

For a single taxpayer who cannot be claimed as a dependent by another taxpayer you must file if you have $8,450 or more in wages.

You must file if you have more than $400 in self employment income.

You must file if you have $850 or more in unearned income.

Those are just for starters. See IRS Pub 501 for a full explanation. And those are the Federal numbers. Each state with an income tax has their own requirements.
