The minimum Service commitment is for 8 years.
The minimum active duty time for all services is 2 years now.
The National Call to Service law passed by Congress instructed all Branch's to set aside some slots for 2 year enlistments.
All Service's limit the number of enlistments in the 2 year program and limit the number of jobs you can choose from.
After the 2 year active duty time, you will have to serve 2 more years in the Drilling National Guard or Reserves.
Then 4 years in the IRR ( Individual Ready Reserve )
non drilling.

The day you sign the papers you become a marine until the day you day. When you meet a Marine after they have been discharged, they don't say I was in the Marines. They say
I am A MARINE.
For I am A MARINE until the day I die and am very proud of it... SemperFi.....

8 years for any branch. Yo may only do 4 or six on active/reserve status - but you are contracted for 8. You do the rest on IRR.
Please correct me if I have that misunderstood
