I am planning on enlisting in the Army Active duty this summer, I am a very adventurous person, dont mind being away from home, or being deployed... so the Army active duty for 20 or more years isnt to big of a deal for me... What MOS is a good one to pick to have fun and enjoy it for 20 + years... What one did you have? What one do you suggest? What one do you not suggest... Im enlisting too... not officer...

The only answer here is that you need to pick an MOS that is in an area that you love to work in. You won't want to be a physicians assistant if you can't stand the sight of blood.

Although as someone else mentioned, you have to score high enough on the ASVAB to qualify for all the jobs. Once you get your list of jobs you are eligible for, go through it slowly and pick the one that you feel you could most enjoy. Ask about the MOS to ensure it is something you may like, if you aren't sure what something is.

Twenty years is a long time. If you don't like the MOS you start with, as long as you are not in a critical MOS, you may be able to change when it comes time to reenlist.

I was basically a mechanic when I was in, but once I got up higher in the ranks, it was a managers job sometimes a babysitters job, not much work anymore on the vehicles.

Only you can decide what you will enjoy and have fun with.

Which Army? British? American? Iraqi? Russian?
How old are you?
How physically fit are you?
How determined?
Morally tough?
How competitive are you?

You mention 20 years, are you seeking a career with job and financial security?
Or do you want to be a soldier?

If you want to be a soldier, then when you enlist you should forget about home and spend every waking minute practising and preparing for deployment. Specifically you should be practising and preparing so that you will SURVIVE your deployment and subsequent assignments.

Don't bank on 20 years, you may not live 20 months.

It's a way of life, it's as real as life gets, it is the best and it is the worst and you should be definate about what you want.

After 20 years in military service, you qualify for retirement pension however this is not enough money to reasonably live off of. Your best choice is to find out what job would best suite your interest after military retirement as there are many jobs within the Army to choose from however the jobs require minimum ASFAB results depending on your field of employment. Although you are a adventurous person basic infantry is not always the way to go, as often times it is hard to find jobs within that particular field of study when you retire from the Army. Although they are out there, they are extremely hard to get. Such fields as FEMA, Washington Group (mercenary group),& FBI are some of the few jobs available to infantry. Depending on ASFAB microbiology is a great field of study. If your ASFAB scores are not high enough to qualify for that field of study, recon intelligence is a good way to go, as there are many companies once you leave the military who want individuals with that sort of training and background experience.

Either way, the Army allows change of MOS so you can try different fields within your ASFAB score. You can even become a Officer later on.

Combat Engineer... but make sure that it is not 12A10... because that is the Pioneer Courpse. I served three years in that MOS when I actually wanted heavy equipment: so that when I got out I could do highway construction work using bulldozers and stuff. Watch out for what the recruiters tell you to sign; you might be signing your life away for at least three years...or be on the run as a deserter for the rest of your life. I stuck it out and learned how to blow up a lot of things. CONFIRM the MOS before you sign!!!

Something in the Signal field. Network or Systems Engineer. This will land you a good job on the outside, whether you do 20 or not.

Well being totally biased I am going to say Military Police since that is what I am. However keep in mind that we are ALL infantry, regardless of MOS, when the sh!t hits the fan.

Well depends on your ASVAB as to what you qual for. I would pick something you are interested in - not what interests others. You can reclass during your career, but choose smart. I would not choose cook becuase I have heard rumor of a phase out...but here are lots of interesting MOSs. www.about.com has a pretty good description of Army MOSs....start reading over a few that interest you. Find a couple then email me or post a question here concerning those particular jobs...

Computers, communications, driving heavy equipment or trucks,...don't take something where you are put in a position to kill people.

I was stationed on a nuclear missile submarine and the though was always in my head "what if we have to fire these things?"
