I was a nurse on an orthopedic unit. Herniated disc was a popular diagnosis. In general the patients became depressed over time. Chronic pain affected their daily activity. They became dependant upon others. For those who responded to treatments full recovery was seen. They returned to their normal activities of life but had followed precautions to prevent additional injury. The two links below should give you good content for your paper.
