I drive a 1996 Nissan Sentra. I bought it a few months ago for $1,100 and it has 100,000 miles on it. It's a really good car, but I've noticed lately that when I try to accelerate quickly to get on the highway or whatever, the car either shudders or the engine gets really loud, but I still don't accelerate. Is there anything I could do to make it accelerate smoother? Any ideas would be helpful.

i know nothing about cars, but I have a 2000 sentra and right before the battery died on my car, this exact thing happened. My car wouldn't accelerate and would make a weird loud noise, and then about 12 hours later, the battery died. don't know if this helps....

Check the timing belt and make sure it is not one tooth off.
