I'm a young looking 38 y/o man who has no clue how to break the ice and possibly show a woman that I am interested when I am at the stores. ( I do not frequent the bar scene )

Grocery stores are great. They have a whole basket full of conversation starters in front of them.

Also, the contents of the basket are a huge clue as to whether or not they have kids and whether or not the live alone.

Also, they're stuck in checkout lines with nothing better to do than talk with you.

Bookstores have some of the same virtues, in theory, but grocery stores used to work better for me, and anyhow I haven't been in your position since before the advent of Amazon.com

Go to Starbucks and look for a woman sitting alone with the newspaper and ask her about current events.
