I also live about 50 miles from the nearest international airport (Toronto's Pearson), but I still get down at least once a week.

I love plane spotting! I have enjoyed it since I was a young boy. I grew up in Tucson, Arizona, home of Davis-Monthan AFB and AMARC, the largest military storage yard (4200 planes) in the world. Since 1956 I have seen every airplane the military ever owned flying overhead on final approach to its new desert home. Today I live at the intersection of two landing patterns, one for KDMA and the other for Tucson International (KTUS). I have an air scanner so I can listen to pilot-tower transmissions as I watch them flying over. I always have an eye to the sky.

It's always interesting to see what is flying over head. In 1988 I was sent to Frankfurt Germany. That was the first time I saw groups of people at the end of the Frankfurt airport runway watching airplanes take off and land. Then in 1991 in England there weare people outside the airport fences not just watching airplanes come and go, they wer also writing down the tail numbers of the aircraft at that airport. Guess airplane spotting is a real sport in Europe

yes i love plane spotting, especially when commercial aircrafts are flying really low. I especially like it when i see contrails at sunrise and sunsets. The contrails look so cool with their yellowish/orangish color! You should see it one day, youll be amazed. I also like to track flights online. I do it when i spot a really low flying plane and look at their tails. The ariports is apx. 40-50 miles, but the plane is really low.

Actually no I don't. I used to work as a pilot and now I can't fly anymore, so anytime I see or hear a plane I want to cry.
